The cottage sauna and sauna bathing are a strong part of the traditional Finnish celebration of Midsummer. Time is often set aside for sauna bathing, bathing and bathing again, alone or with friends or relatives. The best parts of the midsummer celebrations are the hours of bathing and sauna drinks, and the time spent in the sauna. During the midsummer season, the tradition is to prepare a birch bundle for the cottage sauna and relax in the newly cleaned sauna.

Tips for an atmospheric Midsummer sauna

Beautiful textiles. Especially the beautiful and high-quality linen tablecloths and towels guarantee a comfortable sauna experience. In addition to the tablecloths, you will also find cushions, washcloths, peflettes, etc. for the sauna. In addition to comfort, the use of sauna towels ensures hygiene and is respectful to other sauna users.

You answer and you whisk. Bring birch or juniper branches into the sauna or dressing room to create a mood. Making and using wicks and bunting are also part of the midsummer sauna. Iron is used to exfoliate the skin, but the most wonderful thing is the summery smell of the iron, which fills the whole sauna.

Lighting The best time to take a sauna is when the sun is slightly down, in a dim and naturally lit sauna. Turn off the lights and enjoy the sheer light of the sun, the summer evening.

Tips for cleaning your midsummer sauna

A clean sauna: Midsummer’s Eve treats are best in a clean sauna. Most Finns clean their saunas at least twice a year, just for Midsummer and Christmas. It’s a good idea to clean the sauna from ceiling to floor. First wipe down the ceiling and walls, then scrub the ceilings. It is a good idea to clean the boards with a neutral detergent suitable for them, such as Sun Sauna.

Sun Sauna Detergent

If you are using Sun Sauna decking, it is easier to wash the removable parts of the decking outside the sauna, so it is also better to leave them there to dry. It is a good idea to use a cleaning sponge or a soft brush to wash the tiles and panels. After washing, care must be taken to ensure that the sauna is ventilated and that it dries as efficiently as possible. However, it is important to avoid drying too quickly, so that the wood does not crack.
Sun Sauna product

If you have fixed decking, it is a good idea to make sure that the undersides of the decking are also washed thoroughly. Finally, the boards should be rinsed with cold water to close the pores in the wood. After washing the boards and panels, remember to wash the stove and stove stones, as well as the sauna floor.

Sun Sauna Elegance -laude

Oiling: once the ceilings are dry, we recommend oiling them. When dry, treat the decks with Sun Sauna’s Decking Protector/Paraffin Oil at least once, preferably twice a year. Our paraffin oil is a colourless, odourless and non-toxic oil designed to reduce the absorption of moisture and dirt into the decking. The paraffin oil treatment enhances the different shades of the wood by slightly darkening its colour. In particular, Black Oak, Warm Oak and Warm Ash may be variegated after treatment, but rarely is the wood completely even.

Sun Sauna paraffin oil

Instructions for oiling the benches: heat the sauna to about 30 degrees and at the same time heat the oil. Leave the heater on for a while after the sauna to allow your sauna to dry well and faster. Always remember to empty the water containers and preferably carry them outside the sauna to dry.
